Using Social Media for Social Good – A Unique Case Study

When asked about the humble setup, the founder, Mr. Zafar Iqbal, had an equally simple answer. “Every penny saved can educate someone somewhere or can be used for treatment of a deserving patient”.

In July 2009, The NGO World was established with the help of a laptop and a number of rigorous brainstorming sessions between its founder and likeminded visionaries. Mr. Zafar Iqbal, the founder had a brain wave when he saw people getting connected by social media more than any other medium, thus he decided to link up people. There were those who could be of service to humanity; there were those who needed help; and then there were those who could donate. Some needed work and the others wanted work done, some needed training and some others knew how to train. The NGO World bridged the gap between all to tie them in a thread of humanity. The objective was to share all about the social sector and enhance the collaborations, ultimately resulting in value based social good for the communities in need. All this was done through online activities with the help of social media tools like Facebook, Yahoo Groups, LinkedIn& Twitter. The NGO World as an active e-forum of NGO Development professionals has achieved great repute and popularity for providing opportunities to the professionals regarding latest information, job alerts, training announcements, issues, success stories, case studies and other related aspects of this valuable sector. Hundreds of professionals have availed beneficial opportunities and earned a wealth of knowledge from this social media networking
